**Key takeaways**

- **The short answer:** Preqin pricing is not public. The median buyer in Vendr's data pays $49,334 a year, in a range of $27,674–$77,221. US government contracts show $16,500 a year for two users of one module and $180,405 for the SEC's fund data.

## Preqin pricing in 2026: how much Preqin costs

**List price:** there is none. The [Preqin Pro](https://www.preqin.com/our-products/preqin-pro) page offers a demo booking and no prices, so every deal goes through sales.\
**Typical contract:** the median buyer in [Vendr's data](https://www.vendr.com/marketplace/preqin) pays $49,334 a year. Contracts run from $27,674 to $77,221 (updated February 2026).\
**Small teams:** Vendr estimates $20,000–$50,000 a year for 2–5 users and one or two asset classes.\
**Large firms:** 15 or more users across several asset classes, with the API, cost $120,000 to over $250,000 a year by the same estimate.\
**One module, two users:** the US Internal Revenue Service paid $16,500 for a year of Preqin's private debt database with two user licences in 2023 ([USAspending](https://www.usaspending.gov/award/CONT_AWD_2032H523P00043_2050_-NONE-_-NONE-)). That is $8,250 per user.

**Yearly rises:** the OCC's price went up 5% a year and the SEC's 2% a year. Vendr reports typical renewal rises of 3–7%, and 7–10% or more without a cap.\
**Big jumps:** the IRS paid $7,100 for its Preqin subscription in 2021 and $16,500 in 2023. GSA's yearly payment grew from $64,683 in 2020 to $107,213 in 2024.\
**Little competition:** seven of the eight awards were not competed, and four name Preqin as the only source. The OCC compared three offers.\
**Small vs large:** the smaller subscriptions here, at the IRS, NSF and OCC, cost $16,500–$32,524 a year. The other four buyers pay $64,000–$180,405.

## What drives Preqin pricing

<div class="intel__tablewrap">
<table class="intel__table">
<thead><tr><th>Driver</th><th>How it moves the price</th></tr></thead>
<tbody>
<tr><td>Asset-class modules</td><td>Each module is priced on its own. One module for two users cost the IRS $16,500 a year.</td></tr>
<tr><td>Seats</td><td>Priced per user, with lower rates around 5, 10, 25 and 50 users</td></tr>
<tr><td>Access level</td><td>Premium analytics cost 50–100% more than basic data access</td></tr>
<tr><td>API and data feeds</td><td>$15,000–$75,000+ a year, or 30–60% on top of the subscription</td></tr>
<tr><td>Onboarding and set-up</td><td>$2,000–$10,000 for training; $5,000–$20,000 to set up an API or feed</td></tr>
<tr><td>Contract term</td><td>Two- and three-year deals land 15–30% below the first quote</td></tr>
</tbody>
</table>
</div>

**Modules:** Preqin sells private equity, venture capital, private debt, real estate, infrastructure and hedge funds as separate modules, according to [Vendr](https://www.vendr.com/marketplace/preqin). Yale's licence, for example, covers private equity, hedge funds and real estate, and other modules are not available there ([Yale CDO](https://cdo.som.yale.edu/resources/preqin/)).\
**Feeds:** the [Feeds API](https://www.preqin.com/our-products/feeds-api) delivers core datasets as CSV files at extra cost, priced by data scope and number of users. API fees across vendors are compared in [PitchBook and Crunchbase API pricing](https://privateequitylist.com/intelligence/pitchbook-crunchbase-api-pricing).\
**Hidden costs:** Vendr says add-ons and services can lift the bill 10–20% above the base subscription.

## Preqin free trial and free account

**Free trial:** a Preqin Pro trial is valid for five days and can be redeemed once per business entity. A consultative call takes place before access, and Preqin makes the final decision ([Preqin trial page](https://www.preqin.com/c/global-report-2026-key-findings-pro-free-trial-portugal)).\
**Free account:** it unlocks Preqin's research reports, charts on fundraising, deals, dry powder and performance, and free benchmarks ([Preqin free account](https://www.preqin.com/registerinterest/free-account-benefits)).\
**Free plans elsewhere:** Crunchbase has a free account with about 11 profile views a month ([ZoomInfo](https://pipeline.zoominfo.com/sales/crunchbase-pricing)). Private Equity List Basic is free, with one page of results and no contacts.

## Preqin and BlackRock: what changed in 2025

- **£2.55B**: BlackRock's price for Preqin (about $3.2B in cash)
- **4,000+**: Preqin client relationships (June 2024)
- **~$240M**: Preqin revenue (2024 estimate)
- **210,000**: funds Preqin covers (March 2025)

**The deal:** BlackRock agreed to buy Preqin on 30 June 2024 for £2.55 billion, about $3.2 billion in cash ([BlackRock announcement](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1364742/000119312524172680/d797846dex991.htm)). It closed on 3 March 2025 ([Preqin press release](https://www.preqin.com/about/press-release/blackrock-establishes-preeminent-private-markets-technology-and-data)).\
**Size:** at signing, Preqin had 4,000+ client relationships and about $240 million of expected 2024 revenue, after growing about 20% a year for three years. That is roughly $60,000 per client.\
**Coverage:** 190,000 funds, 60,000 fund managers and 30,000 private markets investors in June 2024. By March 2025 Preqin cited 210,000 funds and more than 220,000 users.\
**For buyers:** Preqin is still sold as a standalone product. BlackRock plans to fold Preqin's data into Aladdin and eFront over time, and joint clients already get Preqin benchmarks inside Aladdin.

**Where Preqin wins:** fund returns, cash flows, benchmarks and LP commitment histories. A manager raising from pension funds and endowments needs them, and Private Equity List does not have them.\
**Where an alternative is enough:** finding and contacting private equity and venture capital firms, family offices and funds of funds. Private Equity List has 8,117 investor profiles, and its plans with team contacts cost $99–$249 a month.\
**Fresh funds:** the [new funds tracker](https://privateequitylist.com/new-vc-funds) holds 841 funds launched in 2026, with 125 in May alone. A fund that just closed has money to put to work.\
**LP lists:** the [fund of funds](https://privateequitylist.com/investors/fund-of-funds) and [family office](https://privateequitylist.com/investors/family-office) directories hold the LP profiles. Our [LP database](https://privateequitylist.com/intelligence/lp-database) guide shows how to build a target list from them.

## When Preqin is worth the money

<div class="intel__tablewrap">
<table class="intel__table">
<thead><tr><th>Job</th><th>Preqin?</th><th>Cheaper option</th></tr></thead>
<tbody>
<tr><td>Benchmarking fund returns, LP allocation research</td><td>Yes</td><td>—</td></tr>

<tr><td>Founder raising a round</td><td>No</td><td>Private Equity List, Crunchbase</td></tr>
<tr><td>Adviser looking for private equity buyers</td><td>No</td><td>Private Equity List</td></tr>
</tbody>
</table>
</div>

**Worth it:** fund benchmarking and LP research at a firm that already spends $50,000 a year on data. Fund history is Preqin's core product.\
**Not worth it:** a founder raising a round or an adviser building a buyer list. Most of the licence pays for fund returns you will not open.\
**In between:** an emerging manager raising Fund I needs LP names and contacts more than return data. A list from [Private Equity List](https://privateequitylist.com/pricing) costs $99–$249 a month; Preqin can come later, for commitment histories.

## How to get a better price on Preqin

**Start early:** open talks 60–90 days before you need access, Vendr advises.\
**Bring a second quote:** run a parallel evaluation of PitchBook or another provider. Vendr says first quotes are often 20–40% above the price you can reach.\
**Bundle once:** put every asset class and seat in one deal instead of adding them mid-term.\
**Time it:** Preqin's fiscal year ends in December, with quarter closes in March, June and September.\
**Cap renewals:** ask for a 3–5% cap on yearly rises. Without one, Vendr sees rises of 7–10% or more; the OCC's contract rose 5% a year.\
**Settle extras upfront:** price the API, feeds, onboarding and support in the first contract.

## Data and methodology

**Preqin pricing:** Preqin publishes none. Contract figures come from Vendr's buyer data (updated February 2026). Segment ranges, add-on costs and discounts are Vendr's estimates, not list prices.\
**US government contracts:** every award to Preqin Ltd on USAspending.gov, pulled on 4 November 2026. A yearly amount is the base award or the option exercised that year; extra money added mid-term is shown separately.\
**Preqin company figures:** BlackRock's June 2024 announcement and Preqin's March 2025 release. Revenue per client is our division of the 2024 revenue estimate by 4,000 clients.\
**Private Equity List figures:** investor profiles and funds in the Private Equity List database on 4 November 2026. Other platforms' prices come from the pages linked above, checked 31 October 2026.

## FAQ

### How much does Preqin cost per year?

Preqin does not publish prices. The median buyer in Vendr's data pays $49,334 a year, in a range of $27,674–$77,221. US government contracts run from $16,500 a year for two users of the private debt module to $180,405 a year for the SEC's private equity fund data.

### Is Preqin free?

No. Preqin Pro is a paid annual subscription. You can request a five-day free trial, once per business, after a call with Preqin. A free Preqin account gives research reports, market charts and benchmarks, but not the Preqin Pro database.

### Is Preqin now part of BlackRock?

Yes. BlackRock agreed to buy Preqin for £2.55 billion, about $3.2 billion in cash, in June 2024 and completed the deal on 3 March 2025. Preqin is still sold as a standalone product, and BlackRock plans to bring its data into Aladdin and eFront.

### What is the difference between Preqin and PitchBook?

Preqin is built around funds: fund returns, LP commitments and fundraising across private markets. PitchBook also covers companies, deals and valuations. Buyers report about $12,000 a year for one PitchBook seat and a median PitchBook contract of $31,750, against Preqin's median of $49,334.

### What are cheaper alternatives to Preqin?

Crunchbase Pro costs $49 a month on a yearly plan, for company and funding data. Private Equity List Pro costs $99 a month on a yearly plan, with 8,117 investor profiles, investment-team contacts and a tracker of 841 funds launched in 2026. Neither has Preqin's fund returns or LP commitment histories.
