Switzerland has strong Private Equity and Venture Capital markets which demonstrated steady growth over the last several years in terms of both volume of investments and funds raised by Swiss PE and VC firms, and hence, assets under management (AUM). Switzerland based PE/VC/Angels invest in different industries, especially in Biotech, Healthcare, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Consumer Goods and Retail, Industrials and Business Services. Most of Swiss Private Equity and Venture Capital investors are small and mid-sized firms. Apart from traditional PE and VC companies backed by institutional investors, there is also a diverse landscape of technology parks, incubators, business angels and corporate venture capital units within large Swiss corporations, such as Novartis, Roche and Swisscom. While most of the PE-funded companies in Switzerland are on their early stage, there are many deals at later stages with the largest part of the market in value terms being related to buyouts. PE/VC/Angels in Switzerland are mainly located in Zurich, Geneva or Zug. Swiss Private Equity and Venture Capital markets are closely related to Europe. Many larger Swiss funds also invest in neighbouring countries, such as Germany and Austria, as well as other European countries.
