Key takeaways

  • The short answer: Preqin pricing is not public. The median buyer in Vendr's data pays $49,334 a year, in a range of $27,674–$77,221. US government contracts show $16,500 a year for two users of one module and $180,405 for the SEC's fund data.
  • How it is priced: by asset-class module, number of users, access level and data delivery. API feeds and onboarding cost extra.
  • Renewals go up: the US bank regulator OCC paid Preqin $29,500 in 2024, $30,975 in 2025 and $32,524 in 2026, 5% more each year.

Yearly rises: the OCC's price went up 5% a year and the SEC's 2% a year. Vendr reports typical renewal rises of 3–7%, and 7–10% or more without a cap.
Big jumps: the IRS paid $7,100 for its Preqin subscription in 2021 and $16,500 in 2023. GSA's yearly payment grew from $64,683 in 2020 to $107,213 in 2024.
Little competition: seven of the eight awards were not competed, and four name Preqin as the only source. The OCC compared three offers.
Small vs large: the smaller subscriptions here, at the IRS, NSF and OCC, cost $16,500–$32,524 a year. The other four buyers pay $64,000–$180,405.

What drives Preqin pricing

DriverHow it moves the price
Asset-class modulesEach module is priced on its own. One module for two users cost the IRS $16,500 a year.
SeatsPriced per user, with lower rates around 5, 10, 25 and 50 users
Access levelPremium analytics cost 50–100% more than basic data access
API and data feeds$15,000–$75,000+ a year, or 30–60% on top of the subscription
Onboarding and set-up$2,000–$10,000 for training; $5,000–$20,000 to set up an API or feed
Contract termTwo- and three-year deals land 15–30% below the first quote

Modules: Preqin sells private equity, venture capital, private debt, real estate, infrastructure and hedge funds as separate modules, according to Vendr. Yale's licence, for example, covers private equity, hedge funds and real estate, and other modules are not available there (Yale CDO).
Feeds: the Feeds API delivers core datasets as CSV files at extra cost, priced by data scope and number of users. API fees across vendors are compared in PitchBook and Crunchbase API pricing.
Hidden costs: Vendr says add-ons and services can lift the bill 10–20% above the base subscription.

The deal: BlackRock agreed to buy Preqin on 30 June 2024 for £2.55 billion, about $3.2 billion in cash (BlackRock announcement). It closed on 3 March 2025 (Preqin press release).
Size: at signing, Preqin had 4,000+ client relationships and about $240 million of expected 2024 revenue, after growing about 20% a year for three years. That is roughly $60,000 per client.
Coverage: 190,000 funds, 60,000 fund managers and 30,000 private markets investors in June 2024. By March 2025 Preqin cited 210,000 funds and more than 220,000 users.
For buyers: Preqin is still sold as a standalone product. BlackRock plans to fold Preqin's data into Aladdin and eFront over time, and joint clients already get Preqin benchmarks inside Aladdin.

Where Preqin wins: fund returns, cash flows, benchmarks and LP commitment histories. A manager raising from pension funds and endowments needs them, and Private Equity List does not have them.
Where an alternative is enough: finding and contacting private equity and venture capital firms, family offices and funds of funds. Private Equity List has 8,117 investor profiles, and its plans with team contacts cost $99–$249 a month.
Fresh funds: the new funds tracker holds 841 funds launched in 2026, with 125 in May alone. A fund that just closed has money to put to work.
LP lists: the fund of funds and family office directories hold the LP profiles. Our LP database guide shows how to build a target list from them.

Worth it: fund benchmarking and LP research at a firm that already spends $50,000 a year on data. Fund history is Preqin's core product.
Not worth it: a founder raising a round or an adviser building a buyer list. Most of the licence pays for fund returns you will not open.
In between: an emerging manager raising Fund I needs LP names and contacts more than return data. A list from Private Equity List costs $99–$249 a month; Preqin can come later, for commitment histories.

How to get a better price on Preqin

Start early: open talks 60–90 days before you need access, Vendr advises.
Bring a second quote: run a parallel evaluation of PitchBook or another provider. Vendr says first quotes are often 20–40% above the price you can reach.
Bundle once: put every asset class and seat in one deal instead of adding them mid-term.
Time it: Preqin's fiscal year ends in December, with quarter closes in March, June and September.
Cap renewals: ask for a 3–5% cap on yearly rises. Without one, Vendr sees rises of 7–10% or more; the OCC's contract rose 5% a year.
Settle extras upfront: price the API, feeds, onboarding and support in the first contract.

Data and methodology

Preqin pricing: Preqin publishes none. Contract figures come from Vendr's buyer data (updated February 2026). Segment ranges, add-on costs and discounts are Vendr's estimates, not list prices.
US government contracts: every award to Preqin Ltd on USAspending.gov, pulled on 4 November 2026. A yearly amount is the base award or the option exercised that year; extra money added mid-term is shown separately.
Preqin company figures: BlackRock's June 2024 announcement and Preqin's March 2025 release. Revenue per client is our division of the 2024 revenue estimate by 4,000 clients.
Private Equity List figures: investor profiles and funds in the Private Equity List database on 4 November 2026. Other platforms' prices come from the pages linked above, checked 31 October 2026.

Yes. BlackRock agreed to buy Preqin for £2.55 billion, about $3.2 billion in cash, in June 2024 and completed the deal on 3 March 2025. Preqin is still sold as a standalone product, and BlackRock plans to bring its data into Aladdin and eFront.
Preqin is built around funds: fund returns, LP commitments and fundraising across private markets. PitchBook also covers companies, deals and valuations. Buyers report about $12,000 a year for one PitchBook seat and a median PitchBook contract of $31,750, against Preqin's median of $49,334.
Crunchbase Pro costs $49 a month on a yearly plan, for company and funding data.
